Under Great Grandmother's Tree
South Shore Art Center
April 27 - May 4, 2018
In celebration of Massachusetts-designated Art Week 2018 (April 27-May 4), South Shore Art Center is hosting "Under Great Grandmother's Tree." This interactive art installation will transform our outdoor sculpture garden into a fairytale woodland by bringing Marcia Ballou's "Fox" to life; and it will include opportunities for visitors to help curate the transformation.
FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
"Under Great Grandmother's Tree" opens on Friday, April 27 and runs the duration of Art Week. Admission is free and open to all community members - with community participation a vital part of the project's iteration.
MEET MR. FOX
Community members will enter our brick courtyard to encounter a flowering dogwood strewn with garlands from which super-sized butterflies and dragonflies dart. They will meet the handsome Mr. Fox, standing sentry beneath the tree. And they will be encouraged to enhance the installation.
HELP THE INSTALLATION UNFOLD:
ADD FLOWERS & COLLABORATE ON A MURAL
South Shore Art Center invites the community to help us expand the installation "Under Great Grandmother's Tree" by adding mixed-media flowers in and under the dogwood and by contributing to a collaborative mural by coloring in a large-scale reproduction of a Marcia Ballou collage. Early participants will receive a gift from our seedling lending library, packaged beautifully in ceramic thumbnail pinch pots (while supplies last!).
